Five ways to let miracles into your life.

Inspired by Chicken Soup for the Soul: Miracles and More by Amy Newmark

Miracles are waiting for us — you just have to look around to see them and be open to accepting them. The 101 powerful stories in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Miracles and More prove that miracles happen, every day, to people from all walks of life. Here are five ways to help you find the miracles in your life.

  1. Enjoy new connections. When Sheila Quarles took a last-minute vacation to St. Thomas, she never imagined she would find her birth family. But that’s exactly what happened when Sheila, who had suspected she was adopted, was randomly seated right next to her biological sister in a restaurant. As the two strangers chatted, the truth came out, and that very day Sheila ended up flying to St. Croix with her newfound sister to meet the rest of the family.
  2. Don’t resist the impulse to reach out to a loved one. C. Solomon came home from her high school on an Army base in Germany on 9/11 minutes after the two planes struck the World Trade Center. She felt an overwhelming need to call her grandfather in Virginia to make sure he was okay and somehow, for the first time, remembered his cell phone number. When she reached him only seconds before he was going to turn off his phone to enter the Pentagon, he stepped out of the security line he was standing in to get a better signal. Just minutes later, when he would have reached his office inside, the airplane hit the building.
  3. Go with your gut feelings. Tiffany Flynn didn’t know why she felt such a compelling need to keep driving during a terrible rainstorm instead of doing the sensible thing and seeking shelter under a nearby car dealer’s awning. Instead, she crept all the way home through torrential rain and hail. It was only when she got home that she learned the car dealer’s building had been destroyed by a tornado just minutes after she would have arrived there.
  4. Accept the gift of divine intervention. Susan Traugh’s daughter was on her way to buy drugs after months of sobriety because a friend of hers had overdosed. When she just missed having a major car accident, she was shocked to find that the other driver was her very own Narcotics Anonymous sponsor, whom she had been avoiding. That incredible coincidence was a turning point for her, one that put a very grateful young woman back on the right path.
  5. Listen to your dreams. After Judee Stapp’s divorce she was absolutely sure she would never marry again, even after she had a vivid dream in which she envisioned herself walking down the aisle and saw a bridegroom and his little girl waiting for her. When she fell in love with a new man, she still refused to remarry, but ultimately he prevailed! It was only when she was walking down the aisle at their wedding that she realized that everything was exactly the same as in the one she had experienced years before in her dream.
