From Chicken Soup for the Soul: Family Caregivers

Thank You

We owe huge thanks to all of our contributors. You poured your hearts and souls into the thousands of stories and poems that you shared with us. We appreciate your willingness to open up your lives to our readers and share your own experiences as family caregivers or as the recipients of that care. Your advice and experience will help hundreds of thousands of people just like you.

We could only publish a small percentage of the stories that were submitted, but we read every single one and even the ones that do not appear in the book had an influence on us and on the final manuscript. Our editor Susan Heim read every submission to this book and put together the first draft of this manuscript with great attention to the issues that were most important to me and to Chicken Soup for the Soul publisher (and my co-author) Amy Newmark. Assistant publisher D’ette Corona worked with all the contributors, obtaining their approvals for our edits and the quotations we carefully chose to begin each story. Editors Barbara LoMonaco and Kristiana Glavin proofread the manuscript and made sure the book went to the printer on time.

My long-time colleague and friend Elise Silvestri and my daughter Lindsay Krauss, also now a colleague, were invaluable to me in obtaining, transcribing and editing the interviews and special stories provided by many wonderful, sharing friends and associates.

I also want to thank all my children and my husband Jeff for their patience while I worked on this book, especially during our winter holiday break! And of course, my thanks go to my mentor and inspiration, my mother Gladyce, whose picture graces the back cover of this book, and who makes every day that I am a family caregiver a special day.
