WHO IS JULIE FIRMAN?

From Chicken Soup for the Soul Celebrating Mothers and Daughters

Who Is Julie Firman?

Julie Firman is the mother of two daughters—her coauthors—and one son. She has eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She has been married to her wonderful husband for sixty-five years. Julie has had a range of careers from school teacher and school administrator to psychotherapist, group leader, trainer, author, and speaker. She and her daughter, Dorothy, are the authors of Daughters and Mothers, Making It Work and have led workshops on the mother-daughter relationship at numerous conferences and centers around the country.

At eighty-seven, Julie doesn’t play tennis several times a week like her husband, but she is still very active in the community. Part of her legacy will always be “Rehearsal Dinner Queen” because she has hosted a large rehearsal dinner for three different grandchildren, creating a wonderful family tradition. The grandchildren visit from all over North America, and the family gathers at Julie and Win’s for one of their big dinner parties.

Julie has recently retired from her formal ”mother-daughter” work, but she still speaks occasionally to local groups and continues to write to and consult mothers and daughters in kitchen table fashion. You can email her at [email protected]
