WHO IS DAHLYNN MCKOWEN?

From Chicken Soup for the Fisherman's Soul

Who Is Dahlynn McKowen?

Dahlynn McKowen is the mother of two great kids, Shawn, age seven, and Lahre, age twelve. She married Ken in 2002, and became stepmother to Jason, Ken’s adult son.

A freelance writer since 1987, Dahlynn stopped counting the number of articles published after passing the two-thousand mark. Her focus has been on people and destination pieces, writing everything from business and travel stories to music and bed-and-breakfast reviews. Many years ago, Bud Gardner, coauthor of Chicken Soup for the Writer’s Soul, was responsible for nurturing, encouraging and inspiring Dahlynn’s writing career.

Dahlynn is the primary owner, along with her husband Ken, of Two Writers’ Ink (TWI), a business they started many years prior to their marriage. TWI provides writing, editing, and publicist and author representation services, as well as screen- and ghostwriting.

In a past life, Dahlynn worked for the state of California’s office of tourism, helping to create travel guides. She also served as a speech-writer and publicist for the director of California State Parks and as the media and public relations director for the start-up of the California sesquicentennial commemoration.

Dahlynn, an accomplished musician, is helping teach her daughter Lahre and husband Ken to play both clarinet and piano, with Lahre being the better student. In return, Lahre, a talented and aspiring young artist, helped Dahlynn and Ken with Chicken Soup for the Fisherman’s Soul by drawing a cartoon for the book. Shawn has done his part also; that’s him on the book’s cover, wearing the green vest, catching his first trout on a fly rod while in Colorado!

Dahlynn’s family has played a key role in her success as a mother and a writer, from grandmother DeEtta Anderson’s constant phone calls of encouragement and love, to her parents Cliff and Scharre Johnson, who taught her to be true to herself and never give up on her dreams. They have taught her well.
