Who Are Sherm and Peg Fugal?

Sherm and Peg Fugal are college sweethearts who met while they were students at Brigham Young University. They have been married for thirty-four years and are the parents of four grown sons and grandparents of three grandchildren (to whom this book is dedicated).

Sherm was born and raised in Pleasant Grove, Utah, where his Mormon ancestors from Denmark settled in the 1860s. Peg was born in Vermont, where her paternal ancestors were original colonists. She was raised on a dairy farm in western New York. While Sherm was serving a mission in Guatemala-El Salvador in the late 1960s, Peg was investigating the Church in western New York, which she joined just shy of her eighteenth birthday during her senior year of high school.

Sherm is a real estate investor. Peg owns the oldest, continuous advertising agency in Utah (the only one founded, owned and operated by a woman). Together, they invented the only no-bend, no-lift snow shovel in the world, on which they have a patent, and which they sell all over the country via their Web site: ezplow.com.

Stan and Sharon Miller compiled the first three volumes of Especially for Mormons; Sherm and Peg helped compile the fourth and fifth volumes. Five years ago, the Millers turned Especially for Mormons over to the Fugals, who compiled three new volumes.

Sherm and Peg are both prolific readers and have more books than they can possibly shelve. Peg is also a prolific writer. She began writing at the age of ten, got a job as a stringer for the local newspaper when she was only sixteen, sold her first magazine article when she was a college freshman and worked for the campus daily newspaper at BYU. Before graduating from BYU, she worked as a freelance writer, a radio and television personality, and started her advertising agency. She has authored, coauthored and/or edited eleven best-selling books.

Sherm and Peg spend their free time enjoying their sons and grandchildren. Their oldest son Jayson was one of the first missionaries to serve in Romania; he worked for his mother’s advertising agency for ten years before moving to Manhattan where he is an advertising executive with National Geographic Adventure magazine; he is married to his college sweetheart Cori, who served a mission in Portugal; they are the parents of Ayden. Their second son Josh served a mission in Brazil; he works for Diebold, the banking products company; his college sweetheart Stephanie teaches at BYU; they are the parents of Halle and Maddie. Like their parents, both Jayson and Josh graduated from BYU. Their third son Jake served a mission in southern California and put himself through college on basketball scholarships (Utah Valley State College and East Carolina University); like his father, he is a real estate investor. Their youngest son Jer served a mission in Korea; he is still in college and works for his father and brother.
