Who Is Dorothy Firman?

Dr. Dorothy Firman is a psychotherapist, life coach, author, consultant, speaker and trainer. She has worked in the field of mother and daughter relationships for more than twenty years, offering workshops, seminars and keynote presentations with her mother Julie. Their book, Daughters and Mothers, Healing the Relationship, now in its fifth printing, is designed as an active workbook for women wanting to become more whole in relationship and in themselves.

Dorothy is a founding member of the Association for the Advancement of Psychosynthesis, a spiritual psychology that she first encountered in her early years as a student and colleague of Jack Canfield. For twenty-five years, Dorothy has been a trainer of helping professionals in the field of psychosynthesis, offering people the opportunity to deepen their experience of aliveness, presence and the ability to serve. Her training is run through The Synthesis Center, a nonprofit educational organization co-founded by Jack Canfield in 1976. The Center is dedicated to making therapy and therapeutic groups available to all in need. It specializes in the teaching of psychosynthesis, cancer support work and mothers’ groups.

Dorothy has been a psychotherapist in Amherst, Massachusetts, for more than twenty-five years. Her work focuses on helping to create meaning, purpose and values in life, while addressing issues of trauma and personal need. She has specialized in work with people with cancer, has worked in the inner city with teenage mothers, done consulting work for groups throughout the United States and presented her psychosynthesis work in Europe, the United States and Canada.

Dorothy has three incredible children, and one wonderful granddaughter. She has been married to her best friend for twenty-six years. Dorothy’s work includes online coaching and distance-training programs. She is available for speaking engagements and workshops.
