From Chicken Soup for the Mother & Daughter Soul

Who Is Frances Firman Salorio?

Frances Firman Salorio is a solution-focused marriage and family therapist. Her work in family systems over the years has involved individuals, couples and families with many differing goals. She began her work career as a teacher many years ago and has continued to do teaching and training in a variety of settings. She founded and ran Ashbrook Center for Brief Therapies with several colleagues and, in addition to psychotherapy, they held groups, seminars, coaching and training sessions and therapist gatherings for mutual support. She worked at the Christian Counseling Center in Norwalk, Connecticut, for a number of years. Through that Center, she worked in the courts doing an experimental alternative-to-sentencing program for first-time offenders; she did therapy and group work with a prison halfway house for mothers and their children; she did goal-oriented coaching groups for small business, and extensive psychotherapy with a wide range of clients.

She says that, as a family systems therapist, she has watched many mother-daughter relationships in the works and has been privileged to help a number of those relationships sort themselves out. She is the mother of two adult children, and she has commented that she thinks her own mother/daughter stories, as either the daughter or the mother, would be different each year because experience accumulates, understanding deepens, hurts fade and judgments soften.

Since moving to Amherst, Massachusetts, she has done private practice psychotherapy, as well as telephone therapy and coaching sessions, workshops and trainings. She has recently returned to work at the Christian Counseling Center several days a week. For counseling services in the Connecticut area, contact her at the Center. 203-846-4626.
