Thank You

From Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Dog Did What?

Thank You

Thank you dog lovers! I owe huge thanks to every one of you who shared your stories about your beloved, intuitive, heroic . . . and mischievous dogs. You make a strong case for running right down to the animal shelter to adopt a new friend. Your stories made us laugh a lot, nod our heads in recognition, and cry a few times.

I know that you poured your hearts and souls into the thousands of stories and poems that you submitted. Thank you. All of us at Chicken Soup for the Soul appreciate your willingness to share your lives with us. We could only publish a small percentage of the stories that were submitted, but our editorial team read every single submission—and there were thousands! Even the stories that do not appear in the book influenced us and affected the final manuscript.

First of all, I want to thank Miranda Lambert for taking the time out from her busy schedule to write her foreword for us. I loved her story about how her parents worried about how their yellow Lab would take to a new baby, and how the dog surprised them by immediately becoming Miranda’s de facto nanny, sleeping under her crib and guarding her. And I want to thank our editor Jeanne Blandford, who is also the director of marketing for our pet food business. She read thousands of dog stories over many months and educated all of us about shelter dogs and the important issues that we needed to cover in this book.

Our regular editorial team did its normal fabulous job. Our VP & Assistant Publisher D’ette Corona worked with all the contributors as we edited and perfected their stories, and she and Senior Editor Barbara LoMonaco proofread the manuscript, while Managing Editor and Production Coordinator Kristiana Pastir oversaw the long journey from Word document to finished manuscript to proofs to cartons of finished books.

Lastly, I owe a very special thanks to our creative director and book producer, Brian Taylor at Pneuma Books, for his brilliant vision for our covers and interiors.
