81: To the Friend Who Mothered Me

81: To the Friend Who Mothered Me

From Chicken Soup for the Soul: Best Mom Ever!

To the Friend Who Mothered Me

Being a mother is an attitude, not a biological relation.

~Robert A. Heinlein

For the days when I do not believe

I have the resilience, courage and strength

For the days I don’t trust in myself

You do, and you remind me every day

You remind me when I think the sun won’t shine

And that dreams are as forged as fairy tales

That there is light in everything around me

And with hope and faith I can prevail

You are strength just in and of yourself

You are unconditional love

You are a shoulder; a friend I don’t take for granted

And forever and always you’re a wonderful hug

Thanks for being a friend

Thanks for doing the job of a mom

You may not be mine for real

But you still hold the same exact spot

And for that I am grateful and beyond overjoyed

Wishing you the very best on this Mother’s Day

Love always the girl you didn’t birth

But is your child anyway

~Kimberly Edwards
