51. Initially I Was Alone

51. Initially I Was Alone

From Chicken Soup for the Soul: Runners

Initially I Was Alone

I feel the earth and the wind and the trees. I feel its spirit. It puts me in the moment.
~Gabriel Harmony Jennings

I arrived at the scheduled time of 7:30 AM

The entrance to the parking lot was closed

I would have to wait on the street for my training partners The fresh blanket of snow might have prevented them from being on time

I would wait 10 minutes before beginning my run

Shortly after starting my run, I realized I was not alone

Maybe it was the crisp morning air kissing me on the cheek

Maybe it was the beautiful snowflakes passing my eyes

Perhaps it was the bird chirping in the winter woods

Or was it the sound from the peaceful trickle of the stream?

Maybe it was the gentle sound of the new snow under my feet

Maybe it was the sound of the snow as it fell from a giant oak tree in the frozen forest

Perhaps it was the brilliant path illuminated by the snow

Or was it the cascading of the waterfall over the Glen?

A wide grin came across my face

This was a day the Lord had made

I rejoiced and I was glad

Initially I was alone, but I very quickly realized

My training partner is always by my side
