Saying Goodbye, for Now

I’ve shared with you what I’ve learned, as a doctor and as a woman, about losing weight and getting fit over fifty. Now I’ll share one more thing: a confession. When I began writing this book I had not taken consistently the advice I’d been giving to my patients. (This is very common, alas, among doctors!) But reading these stories, and laying out all the evidence of how eating well and exercising improves women’s health and lives, inspired me. I now walk or jog almost every day, I lift weights twice a week, I take a yoga class regularly, I keep my fridge stocked with “default dishes” and ingredients for “little black dresses” — and I’ve never felt better in my life. Those extra pounds came off but, much more important, I now have the energy to do all I want to do, including helping women over fifty lose weight and get fit!
