Recorded by Puddle of Mudd
I moved to Los Angeles from Kansas City, Missouri in 2000 to put together a new band and to record and put our first record out as Puddle of Mudd. I hardly knew anyone there, didn’t have a lot of friends yet, and missed my son and the rest of my family and friends I had to leave behind. I was pursuing my dream and knew I had to make some sacrifices.
I was breaking up with a girl when I left home, but it was going to happen anyway. When I write, it’s usually about lots of different situations that I roll into one. This was no different.
This song, however, was written primarily for my son, who was about four at the time. I missed him terribly. I wrote the song with my bass player, Doug Ardito, who was the first person I brought on board in Los Angeles to join the band. The song came out pretty quickly and was well received.
The song is quite simple — it’s about missing people I love the most.
