From Chicken Soup for the Soul Daily Inspirations for Women

February 26

On my fiftieth birthday, my older daughter gave me a pin that said, “Fifty is nifty.” I wore it to work that day, and what fun it was! All day long people kept telling me I couldn’t be 50. Didn’t look 50.

It was wonderful. I knew they were lying, and they knew I knew, but isn’t that what friends and coworkers are for? By the end of the day, I felt fabulous.

Arriving home, I had just shut the front door when the doorbell rang. It was a young girl from a florist shop, bringing birthday flowers from a friend. As the delivery girl waited for her tip, she noticed the pin on my jacket. “Oh, fifty, eh?”

“Yes,” I answered. I could stand one last compliment before my birthday ended.

“That’s great! Birthday or anniversary?”
