From Chicken Soup for the Soul Daily Inspirations for Women

June 13

I stared at the stick in disbelief. Two straight pink lines. I was seized by fear.

Istared I’m close to 30 years old, but my complexion is 16. Nausea is my constant companion, and my bladder has shrunk to the size of a lima bean. My husband assured me the only thing hysterical about this pregnancy is me.

And my maternity underwear.

But I have to say, the most amazing transformation is how neurotic I’ve become about this little person who isn’t even born yet. Our baby.

When I saw the first sonogram of our baby, I saw a little girl taking her first steps, walking to school, getting her driver’s license, going to college, getting married, having babies of her own. I also wondered how I could possibly protect her from all the bad waiting out there for her, while letting her experience the good.

In that instant I realized there are much scarier things than shapeless maternity underwear. But you know what? I’m ready.
