From Chicken Soup for the Soul Daily Inspirations for Women

June 27

When Martin Wall was released from a prison camp in Siberia, he received word that his family was dead. Slowly he began to regain his health and strength, but his heart was dead.

Then, one morning, he met Greta. Life became worth living again, and soon they were married. Greta longed for children, but she never became pregnant.

On her day off, Greta headed to an orphanage to find a child. A little girl smiled shyly at her, and Greta asked, “Would you like to come home with me to a real home?”

“Oh, yes,” she replied, “but I have to stay with my brother.”

Greta pleaded with Martin. Finally, he suggested they both return. Martin was instantly drawn to the frail, thin boy who held the hand of the wide-eyed little girl. “We will take them both,” he said.

When Greta arrived at the desk, she found Martin in a daze.“Greta, read the names!” Taking the paper she read: Jacob and Sonya Wall, mother Anna (Bartel) Wall. Father, Martin Wall.”

“Oh, Greta, this is my beloved son Jacob and the daughter I never knew I had! This is a miracle!”
