From Chicken Soup for the Soul Daily Inspirations for Women

November 26

The Depression took a toll on my parents’ relationship, and when I was 18, they divorced.

Daddy never had a close relationship with his six children and drifted farther away after the divorce.

Several years later he married a wonderful woman who had two sons. Under her influence we became a “blended family.” She always treated us as if we were her own children.

At the time of our father’s death, we asked our other mother if my mother (Daddy’s first wife) could attend his funeral.

Without giving it a second thought, she immediately replied, “Of course, honey—she’s the mother of my children.”
