From Chicken Soup for the Soul Daily Inspirations for Women

December 31

Six months ago, I had moved from the lush southeast coast to a desolate part of west Texas to live with my mom while I recuperated from a serious accident. New Year’s Eve was only a week away, and I didn’t have even the prospect of a date. Was the rest of the year going to be like this?

Usually the prospect of a blind date would have made me shudder, but I was determined not to spend the night watching other people enjoy themselves, so I called a coworker.

She had been asked out by someone who didn’t know she was engaged, and he had asked if she had a friend.

Nervously, I accepted.

My date turned out to be a cowboy! Over dinner we never ran out of things to talk about, and I couldn’t take my eyes off those green eyes and that smiling mouth.

The next morning, early, he called. Fifty-six days later we were married. That was 21 years ago, and even after all that time, his kisses still make me lightheaded.
