From Chicken Soup for the Father & Daughter Soul

Black and White

One day, while driving in the car with my seven-year-old daughter, we began talking. Somehow, the conversation turned into a discussion about my childhood. She was amazed when I told her that television in my day had no remote control and that the picture on the tube was only in black and white, no colors. She thought about it for a short time and asked me if I was in black and white then, too. I assured her that was not the case and went on to tell her that many changes and new things had happened in the world during my lifetime. I further explained that we could not imagine how the world might change during her lifetime.

When I told her I would probably not live to see all the things that would happen in the world while she was alive, she fell silent, digesting what I had told her. She thought for a moment and said, “Don’t worry, Dad. When it’s done, I will come to heaven and tell you all about it.”
