Introduction
This California Privacy Notice explains rights that California consumers may have under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”).
When we use the term “personal information” in this supplemental California Statement, we are using that term as CCPA defines it, which CCPA generally defines “personal information” to mean information that we maintain in a manner that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could be reasonably linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household. However, personal information does not include publicly available, de-identified, or aggregate consumer information (which are all defined in CCPA).
Where we act as a “business” under CCPA (meaning we determine the manner and reasons for why we process your personal information), we may be required to disclose the categories of personal information we collect, the sources where we obtain that information, the purposes for why we collect that information, and who we share that information — all of which depends on the specific Service.
To the extent “sale” or “sharing” under the CCPA/CPRA are interpreted to include advertising technology activities such as those disclosed here and in our Privacy Policy as a “sale” or “sharing,” we will comply with applicable law, including the CCPA/CPRA. CSS uses cookies and similar technologies on our websites and share some of the information with cookie vendors. If you want to opt-out of cookies that are not necessary to the performance of the website, you may do so by accessing our cookie preferences tool:
- View Cookie Preferences for www.chickensoup.com
- For other sites, please select the gearshift icon in the lower left, or “Cookie Preferences” in the footer.
Please note, we do not “share” information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA.

Financial Incentives
The CCPA allows businesses to offer consumers financial incentives for sharing personal information. For example, a business can offer a rewards program or provide a premium service to consumers as compensation for their personal information. Where CSS offers these programs, your participation is optional. If you choose to participate, your participation will be subject to any applicable terms, and you may withdraw at any time.
How Long We Will Hold Information
We will hold information about you on our systems for as long as is necessary for the relevant services, as long as your account is active, or as long as is set out in any relevant contract you hold with CSS, subject to any applicable laws and/or regulations, or to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. In the case that you wish to cancel your registration as a member of any of our Sites, once an account is deleted, we will not use the information about you other than for administrative purposes. Nonetheless, it stays on the system for a period of one year for administration purposes before being deleted.
Where you contribute to the Sites, we will generally only keep your content for as long as is reasonably required for the purpose(s) for which it was submitted. See the Privacy Policy section User Generated Content.
Your Privacy Rights
The CCPA provides California residents (consumers) with specific rights regarding their personal information. If you are a resident of California and are not a job applicant, employee, or employee of another company interacting with us in your job role, you have the right to know about personal information about you we collect, use, and disclose. You also have the right to request that we delete your information.
The CCPA also gives California residents the right to stop the “sale” of their personal information. Based on the current draft CCPA regulation, amendments, and modifications CSS does not "sell" your Personal Information.
How to Make a Request
Only you or a person registered with the California Secretary of State that you authorize to act on your behalf, may make a verifiable consumer request related to your personal information. An authorized agent may only act on your behalf if you provide a written and signed permission to do so. You will still need to verify your own identity directly with us. You may only make a verifiable consumer request for access or data portability twice within a 12-month period.
You may make a request online or email us at: [email protected]
In order to process your requests, we must first verify your identity. We use the information you provide with your request but may need to request additional information from you.
Making a verifiable consumer request does not require you to create an account with us. We will only use personal information provided in a verifiable consumer request to verify the requestor's identity or authority to make the request.
How We Respond
We endeavor to respond to a verifiable consumer request within 45 days of its receipt. If we require more time (up to 90 days), we will inform you of the reason and extension period in writing. Any disclosures we provide will only cover the 12-month period preceding the verifiable consumer request's receipt. The response we provide will also explain the reasons we cannot comply with a request, if applicable.
We do not charge a fee to process or respond to your verifiable consumer request unless it is excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded. If we determine that the request warrants a fee, we will tell you why we made that decision and provide you with a cost estimate before completing your request.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights. Unless permitted by the CCPA, we will not:
- Deny you goods or services;
- Charge you different prices or rates for goods or services, including through granting discounts or other benefits, or imposing penalties;
- Provide you a different level or quality of goods or services;
- Suggest that you may receive a different price or rate for goods or services or a different level or quality of goods or services.
