Chicken Soup for the Soul Musical Theatre provides educators a perfect opportunity to incorporate SEL into their school day. Yes, of course students can act, sing, and perform each play to help their classmates gain an appreciation of these arts. But each of these musicals exposes students to so much more than just the arts. They provide a springboard to discuss important social and emotional issues that teens face every day.

Self-esteem, peer pressure, and emotional risks are among the issues tackled head-on in these plays. Broader, global concerns are also prevalent, as students will watch how economics and race become hurdles for the plays’ characters. The Teacher’s Companions were created to help you facilitate discussions, and navigate through the questions students are sure to have.
