Max Adler

Max Adler is an associate editor at Golf Digest magazine, whose articles and stories also appear regularly in Golf Digest Index and Golf World. He is a judge of the Hot List, Golf Digest's annual comprehensive evaluation of new golf equipment in the marketplace, and is a member of the Golf Writers Association of America. Drawing on his love of the game, Adler is teaming up with Chicken Soup for the Soul to release the new collection of inspirational true stories, Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Golf Book (Chicken Soup for the Soul Publishing, LLC, April 2009).

Adler played NCAA golf at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va. After earning a bachelor's degree, he was awarded the Ernest L. Ransome Scholarship to study abroad at St Andrews University in Scotland. During his two years living abroad, he obtained a Masters of Letters degree (with distinction) in English studies, competed on the men's university golf team and served as a caddy at the Old Course at St Andrews.

Adler's memorable experience caddying at the Old Course is featured in Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Golf Book, a collection of 101 true short stories by a mix of tour pros, celebrities, award-winning writers and everyday golfers. While some tales are funny and others poignant, they all reveal the power of golf — and the people who play with us — to enrich our lives.

Adler was first inspired to help create this book after collecting essays from recreational golfers for the initial Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge.

"We culled essays from over 56,000 American golfers to award one spot to play the U.S. Open course on live television," he says. "It made us realize how many great stories and backgrounds exist in everyday weekend golf. And if they had inspiring and humorous stories to tell, I knew golf pros and other industry insiders would definitely have a thing or two to share, as well."

Adler currently resides in Wilton, Conn. He continues to play a full schedule of summer amateur golf events, and was the 2007 GWAA (Golf Writer's Association of America) medal play champion.
