Elementary School Program

Dr. Samuel Ehrenreich
Post-doctoral researcher in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at UT Dallas

Currently teaches courses on subjects such as Mass Communication and Behavior and has performed research on the intersection of technology and aggressive behavior in children. One of his recent studies, published in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, found children who send anti-social texts are at high risk of displaying deviant behavior.

Charry Burr
Literacy Specialist

Charry has over​ three decades of experience in instruction, supervision and curriculum development to literacy work and ​educational consulting, at the community level and beyond. Her varied background includes teaching abroad in Africa and China, training volunteers for the ​Literacy Council of Norristown, Pennsylvania, and 13 years teaching Language Arts and English to students with learning differences, ​including dyslexia, ADHD, EF deficits, and Asperger’s syndrome.

Aleza Berube
Social Emotional Learning Specialist at Austin Independent School District

Aleza taught Second Step lessons at Pickle, Zavala and Blackshear Elementary Schools in Austin I.S.D. for three years with LifeWorks and led parent activities and adult training on SEL. Previously, she taught English in Thailand. She joined the SEL Department in July, 2012, and coaches LBJ Vertical Team as the elementary specialist.

Middle School Program

Dr. Tony Tolbert
Professor of Social/Cultural Studies Education and Qualitative Research, Associate Department Chair, Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education at Baylor University

Dr. Talbert has served as a public high school teacher, education specialist and consultant for the Texas Education Agency, Professor, Associate Dean, Department Chair, and Graduate Program Director at such institutions as Sam Houston State University, Mississippi State University, The University of Houston, and Baylor University. One of his recent studies, published in the International Journal of Cyber Behavior, Psychology and Learning explored the characteristics cyberbullying experiences of high school students.

Dr. Janet Hicks
Professor of Mental Health Counseling at Belmont University

Dr. Hicks has researched and written extensively on child and adolescent counseling including such topics as cyberbullying, social aggression, self-injury, substance use and abuse, and academic achievement in the school setting. Dr. Hicks worked for many yeas as a teacher, school counselor, and clinical mental health counselor.

Shirley Hartmann
National Board Certified Teacher

Shirley is an award-winning science and social studies teacher with three decades of experience providing service learning opportunities to students in Austin area school. Shirley served as a lead teacher for A Legacy of Giving, and in 2014 she was the first recipient of the Jane Nethercut Award for Teacher of Philanthropy as well as a finalist for the Austin Icon for Children Award.
